Moved Farther East along the Columbia River

We had to vacate our campsite yesterday, it was booked for the next 2 weeks, so packed up and went farther east bound along the Columbia River, driving along on the Washington side on Route 14.  Very pretty drive, a tidge scary at times because the road hugged the steep cliff down to the river, not allowing for much wiggle room.
Dramatic cliffs, road cut through them
Still trees, but more scant

Just beautiful, looking eastward (up river)
Lots of fishing boats out
I could keep Mt. Hood in my window for most of the drive, looking south, but the best view was watching all the fishing boats out on the water.  Lots and lots of them.  You could tell where the hot spots were, all bunched up in one area.

Oh joy, a tunnel
A very long tunnel!
Mt. Hood in my window
Road right on edge of river
No more trees, just volcanic rock
This area scared us, a little too twisty
Right on the edge
Passed Hood River and on towards The Dalles.  Route 14 moves up along a cliff, away from the water, so we could not see The Dalles Dam.  But, after we set up, we drove back to The Dalles to grocery shop.  I could see Mt. Adams peeking out of a canyon looking north, and we were close to the Dam.  We wondered if we could see Mt. Adams - in Lewis and Clark's journals, they wrote they did not see it on their way to the Pacific but did see the mountain on their return.  So did we!

Near our new campground - still can see Mt. Hood

Notice no vegetation on cliffs/mountains
We can only stay here until this Friday, there is a 'fly-in' going on.  Talked with the camp hosts to ask what it was all about - a huge fishing tournament starts this coming Friday afternoon and the entire campground is booked for it.  That's okay, our site is located right against the bank of the Columbia River, watching the traffic go by.  This morning we saw a large tug pushing 4 barges, but did not have the camera out to tack a pic. During the night I was awakened by fishing boats taking off from the ramp here at the campground.
Driving back into The Dalles, Mt. Hood got bigger (dah).
The Dalles Dam

Mt. Adams peeking out
Nice artwork on bridge
Buddy did fine - did drug him up and no accidents.  One thing that stands out - the lush vegetation we had been experiencing is gone - we now see barren, volcanic rock and steep cliffs.  No more fir/evergreen trees.  Friday we move towards the Oregon/Idaho border and will be camping on the Snake River.
