Short Move to Cody, Wyoming

Sunday morning we packed up and wanted to dally awhile before leaving for Cody since our drive was a year 98 miles away to the north west.  But, all good intentions, still left at our normal 9am.  The drive to Cody took us along a very desolate route, Wyoming 120, still was enough traffic on it that if we did have a problem, someone would come along and help (hopefully).
Goodbye small town Thermopolis
Desolate - smokey skies
Entering Cody - I think there are mountains?
I do mean desolate.  Was not until we got within 10 miles of Cody that we began to see ranches, actually civilization.  And once you make the turn into Cody - wham!  People, RVs, motorcycles - a lot of them, tour buses, horse trailer/trucks, cars, cars, cars.  We came into Cody on the last day of their yearly big rodeo which is why we had a hard time finding a campsite.
Right in downtown Cody - can you imagine in the fall when they come in?
Little smooshy - right by our campground
Says - "Bighorn Sheep range. Ever in the Highway.
Slow down for them. " (dah)
When I was trying to find a spot, every campground inside of the town was filled, ones within 10 miles of Cody - filled.  So, out I went and found a water/electric only hookup for the 8 days we will be here - 30 miles from Yellowstone National Park.  That's okay - we can manage conserving our water use.

We drove through Cody, past the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum which is the main reason we are visiting Cody, past the famous Stampede Rodeo which was overflowing with people and horse trailers, past the Buffalo Bill Dam which was built from the push of Buffalo Bill on the Shoshone River, past Buffalo Bill State Park and Reservoir, and on towards Yellowstone.  We are 19 miles out of Cody, in a small town call Wapiti, but right on the Shoshone River.  And of course - 3 tunnels to go through. And one of them was very very long!
Shoshone River - near Buffalo Bill Dam
3 tunnels
In one - out and back in another
3rd tunnel - it's a biggun'

Buffalo Bill Reservoir
Ah - we arrived - I think I see mountains??
When we checked in we were able to upgrade our sight on Wednesday the 8th to a full-hookup, so we are very happy campers.  Skies are very cloudy still with wildfire smoke so we did not get to see the mountains, very smoke filled.  This area of Wyoming is beautiful!
