Moved to Voyageurs National Park/Kabetogama

So - how do you pronounce where we are at?  Kab - toe - gah - ma.  Or if you are a local -  Kab.  This little town (population of 15) sits right at the edge of Voyageurs National Park, about 25 miles from International Falls.  We were trying to get near the Boundary Waters which begins at the eastern edge of Voyageurs but campgrounds/sites are not to be found, all booked up.  This is a boaters/fishers paradise.
We are at the Pines of Kabetogama Resort, near visitors center
The Red River of Grand Forks
Very large agriculture silos dot the landscape in western Minnesota
Towns we drove through have elaborate dike systems to stop flooding
Once we entered the North Woods, lumber yards galore
Very lonely road

Little Fork River
We left Monday morning from Grand Forks/East Grand Forks and headed east to Bemidji, then headed northeast through the wilderness to Kabetogama.  Very little traffic, was a lovely drive, and were stunned at the homes tucked into the woods as we traveled more north.  How do they survive in the winters?  Locals say it gets to 65 below zero, lots of snow.  I like winter but not like this.

Were on the lookout for moose, did not see any
The resort we are staying at is only 2 years old.  There are 9 sites at the lake level, 6 cabins to rent, and 20 premium sites up on top of the hill, we nicknamed it the nest.  We can rent kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, pontoon boats, run about/fishing boats.  There is a small swimming beach, docks with benches to sit and watch the world go by, just a lovely place.  You can even Glamp it - they have a luxury 5th wheel RV, very posh, sleeps 4, and sits up on the nest area with a wonderful view of the lake from the deck built into the side of the nest where the RV is.  We could have been 'up there' at an additional 35 dollars more a night, but the view of the 2 locations that were available only had peeks of the lake, so we opted to pass.  We will spend the money instead on renting kayaks or hiring a private boat tour to see the boat-only accessible areas of the National Park.
Almost there
1/2 mile more.....
View as we pulled up -  lovely!
View from window of RV.  Nice.
Tomorrow we are heading to the national park to take a boat tour to one of the historic areas.  Should be fun.  Lets hope the weather holds.  We had rain most of the day yesterday and by later this afternoon, should clear up.  However, we need to always have on long shirts/pants and bug spray, the mosquitoes and the huge black flies are nasty when they bite.  Midges are out (for those from Lake Erie area, you know what we are talking of) but they are about a month later than normal.  Listening to the tree frogs late evening and through the night reminds me of growing up in a rural area and hearing tree frogs all night also.
