Yesterday we traveled south about 15 miles to the Ash River Visitor's Center of Voyageurs National Park. This center is located on Kabetogama Lake, on the southern edge. Amazing the lake is that big, but Kabetogama is second largest, the largest of Voyageur is Rainy Lake which is up north near International Falls.

Looking north from the boat dock at visitor's center |
|
Looking north, beautiful water and scenery as far as you can see |
|
Finnish built cabin, original, now used as the visitor's center |
Watched the movies they offered then walked down to the Lake to see the scenery. My goodness, it is beautiful here. And I said it before, a fishing/boating paradise. Jet skis are not allowed on any of the lakes of Voyageurs, and that lack of noise and craziness of people is wonderful.

Dave almost stepped on this tree frog - about 3/4 inch big (they are small) |

Beginning of our walk to beaver pond |
|
Mushroom growing inside hulk of dead tree, very symmetrical |
|
Did not see any activity |
After walking around the center and dropping down to the Lake, we drove back out a way and went to the Beaver Pond, saw the dam the beavers built but no activity. Maybe they were sleeping? Continued on the park road back to the visitor's center to pick up the Blind Ash Trail. Seemed doable but we got our butts kicked with the humidity and the bugs. We had spray on but they did not care.

Another tree frog - look in between the bark sections - very small |
We did not complete the loop, but walking in the pristine woods and seeing the Lake below us, beautiful. And hearing the loons call, wonderful!
