Hiking the Carson Draw Trail

Today we took a hike in the Black Hills National Forest, specifically to the Carson Draw Trail where, if we hiked the whole distance, would have been over 6 miles.  Weather was perfect for a walk so off we went about 6 miles from our campground.

Our goal was the lower left path marked E

Hiking, biking, cross country skiing, horseback riding

Pretty little yellow flowers
Situated in the Black Hills National Forest, the hike was rated moderate and if lucky, we would have seen deer, birds, lots of wildflowers.  We did see some pretty little things coming up, small yellow bell like flowers and deep purple flowers.  It looked like spring had only been in the mountains just a few weeks, leaves were out and but the undergrowth was very young.
Definitely well used, the path could be seen without problem

The blue bands on trees - marked for harvesting some time this summer

Butterfly flitted after us
We climbed just a bit, less than 200 feet, and wound our way through the forest.  Beautiful day.  We decided to turn around after walking short of 1 1/2 miles and came back the same way.  The brochure we got from the forest service showed it to be a loop trail of 5.3 miles.  This was our official first hike, we really have not done any hiking since we left the end of May and as it was, decided to not overdo it.  3 miles was our final tally, good day.  The smells and sounds of the forest are awesome.
Sometimes we were in open meadow

Baby Robin appeared out of nowhere
Hard to see but tracks of a large cat.
