Moved to Chama, New Mexico

Not far, we drove 178 miles to get from Angel Fire to Chama.  First, a wildfire broke out near the town of Cimarron, the same town we drove through to get to Angel Fire.  And it's a really bad one.  Broke out Thursday afternoon and by this morning had grown to over 27,000 acres.  Structures are being lost, the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch (a big to-do for Boy Scouts) has been evacuated and some of their structures have been lost to the fire.  And as of 4pm today, 0% contained.  We have high winds, low humidity, and the winter was way too dry.  There is a second fire, started yesterday near Durango, and it's turning out to be a bad one also.

As seen from our window at Angel Fire
Yesterday we packed up left Angel Fire, seeing the smoke even more higher in the sky.  Since Route 64 is closed, we had to travel into Taos and then skirt around the town, dropping south near Santa Fe before turning northward again.  No direct route for an RV, the GPS said the road was too narrow and twisty.  Better to be safe than sorry.
Starting up the mountain to then drop down into Taos

We trashed the inside of the RV with all these hairpin turns

Could smell these Lilacs (Mom - I was thinking of you!)

Pretty drive.  We drove through the Rio Grande Gorge and saw rafters skimming along.  Then back out of the canyon and headed towards Abiquiu which is the home of the Ghost Ranch where Georgia O'Keefe (famous artist) had her home.  Very pretty area.

Near Abiquiu, wonder the history?
Then started our climb up into the Rocky Mountains.  We wondered how far we could see, the vista views were amazing.  Got into Chama and the campground by 1pm, set up and we were relaxing, listening to the river by 3pm.  At 4pm the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad train came in to town, we will do this trip sometime during our stay here.

Chama sits 7 miles south of Colorado, we are camped on the Rio Chama (river), wonderful sound to hear the water flowing over the stones.  We were signed up for only one week but have changed it to 2 weeks.  Couple of reasons - we have to get/do a repair on the RV, the slider acted up again.  This is the same slide that we had to have a repair done in Topeka, KS.  Second - I am not feeling that good so this morning Dave drove me to Urgent Care and have anti-biotics for 10 days.  So, we rest, fix the RV, and then do the train ride.  Could be worse but a nice place to get healthy again.
In the distance, Colorado's mountains
We can see train leave at 10am, then return at 4pm every day
