Made it to Kanab, Utah

For Dave it was a very long 2 days - 541 miles of driving, and for Buddy - the longest 2 days of his short life.  He had a VERY BIG melt-down today, about 40 miles into our trek southward this morning.  Will get to it in a moment.  We left Twin Falls, Idaho, yesterday, the threat of snow and very cold weather motivated us to get going south.  We had to wait for the winds to die down and we took off along Interstate 84 eastbound with the destination of Fillmore, Utah as our night goal.  Said our goodbyes to the Snake River as we followed it for quite a distance - seems we have really learned about this river.  Tied to a lot of history.
Crossed the Snake River for the last time - it winds northward
towards Yellowstone from here
And we made a full circle from 6 months ago
Nothingness
Not even cars, nothingness
We have entered our 9th state this summer (2 repeats)
Very flat and wide open - what we call nothingness - drive out of Twin Falls.  Mostly eastbound.  Then we stepped down into Utah, continued on I84 and dropped further down into Salt Lake City. Boy, we do not like driving in that town.  Seems every time we have come through the roads are under construction.  Weaving in and out, back and forth.  But, we made it.  We had to make a quick stop at a rest area when our warning electrical system for the car was beeping.  Something was wrong.  We think the bumping of the roads made the harness that plugs into the RV loosen up.  Dave ended up tying it up with string to keep it tight.  No more beeping.

Noticed that the Wasatch Mountains that borders the city was snow covered from the previous day/nights precip.  And that's why we were skedaddling!
Bazillion sheep
Dats snow! Yuck.
The Great Salt Lake in the distance
Salt Lake City
It has it's own personal weather
Continued on and got into Fillmore by 5pm last night.  Long day.  Yesterday morning we had trouble getting the medicine into Buddy - he's getting too wise to our antics.  But this morning, wow.  I was shaking by the time we got a pill shoved down him after 3 tries.  And he was a mess from the get go.  But we packed up and got on the way by 9:30.  Sunrise wasn't until 7:30 and it was a brr, nippy 41 when we pulled out.  Last night Buddy did a first - he slept on my chest.  With his face tucked under my chin.  He was so bummed out from yesterday's travel.  Needless to say I did not sleep well, nor did he.
Dramatic scenery
More nothingness
It was right about here that Buddy went crazy

Uneventful, drove south on Interstate 15, this morning. Made the decision to cut over on Interstate 70 eastbound and to pick up Route 89 south.  This is a route we have done in the past, very very scenic.  But I did not get to see much of the cutoff for the 23 miles Dave drove on I70.  I had Buddy in my lap, me sitting on the floor, keeping him quieted/calmed as much as I could.  Dave and I said we felt we were dealing with our older cat, Chip.  Same scenario.  Howling, crying, panting, he was biting me (not hard but I knew he was not happy).  I think the altitude really hurt his ears - we had climbed to about 7200 feet and that's when he went ballistic.  Got him calmed down after about 40 miles and I carried him back to the bed and shoved him under the covers, all the time Dave driving along.
Paiute Lake dried up
Quaint little towns
Nothing like being stared at by a bunch of cows
Passed the cut off to Bryce and Grand Staircase Escalante
Zion straight ahead
Back in red rock country

North Rim of Grand Canyon dead ahead

Dave continued on the very scenic Route 89, through small towns, then we got to Kanab, Utah which is a small town that borders Arizona and Utah.  Red rocks galore. This is a base for many people who want to visit Zion, Capital Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Cedar Breaks. We got our spot, backed in, slides out and I had to coax Buddy out, he was so out of it, could not walk.  The medicine really kicked in.  Tonight will be another night that he will be right at my face, he is laying in my lap shivering (shaking) from the fright today.  Poor cat.  We will stay here for a week, doing some sight seeing before heading more towards Picacho.

Just down the road - a great organization
