Resting in Deming, New Mexico

We made the quick (3 1/2 hours) drive from Alamogordo to Deming, New Mexico on Wednesday, very easy drive on Route 70.  But first said goodbye to Dixie, hope she wins first place in all her rodeos. Buddy must be getting used to the routine of him being drugged up, he isn't getting sick like he did in the past.  I have also learned that neither cat gets food after sunrise, I feed them very early so the food won't come back up, has more time to digest.

Goodbye for now to the Sacramento Mountains above Alamogordo
Right as you leave Alamogordo and head west, there is a large sign that says Route 70 may be closed, sometimes for at least an hour.  This is due to missile testing being done.  The other day we heard very loud noises coming from the range and we think they were setting off a bomb or dropped one.  There was a lot of air activity that morning.  Makes sense.
Closed for bombing/missile activity
Airbase wayyyyy out in the middle of nowhere

Entering missile range area
Saw where the dunes are taking over the route, wonder what they will do to stop that - maybe eventually put up a tall hard fence.  Past Holloman Air Force base, past the missile testing range, along no-man's land.  Very desolate.  Climbed up and over the San Augustin Pass (5719 feet) of the San Andres Mountains, and then dropped down into the Las Cruces basin.

Love the vista views

Coming up and over the pass
Picked up Interstate 25 south and looped around Las Cruces heading west on Interstate 10.  Destination Deming about 60 miles further.  We are staying at Dreamcatcher's RV Park, an Escapees member only park, have been here before and it's basically a pass-through campground, right against I 10 but it is quiet.  Winds typically blow from the south so the noise is pushed away from us.  It's a parking lot campground, has all the bells and whistles you may want, but we don't need any, so we will move again tomorrow.  The worker bee's told Dave that they expect the park to be quite full this winter, last 2 nights a lot have come in, then moved on in the morning.  Because of the Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Hurricane Irma in Florida, many campgrounds have been destroyed and they feel people will be coming out west to winter (southern New Mexico, Arizona, California).

Yay!!  Getting much closer to Tucson
Rio Grande in Las Cruces, muddy from rains the night before

Have to relearn dust storms, a very bad experience if in one
Within 2 hours, had lots of neighbors
