Santa Fe Trail Museum

After visiting Pawnee Rock, we were close to the town of Larned and in that town are two things to see, one being the Santa Fe Trail Museum, which is dedicated to those who traveled the trail from before the freighters came through (Native Americans) to present day folks.
In the town of Larned, just follow the Santa Fe Trail signs

Shows you how big the conestoga wagon was
Interesting.  Each room was staged for a certain period of time.  Some of it was being remodeled but we got the essence of what was there.  I was really impressed with the antique quilts that were shown - one of them I want to make in the near future.

After touring the inside of the museum, outdoors was various buildings and structures to see.  An original sod house (no thank you, I could imagine snakes and bugs coming through the roof into the inside), dugout home, log cabin, a church from the 1870's, one room school house, a train depot, a lime cooling building for cooling your foods, and of course out houses.  Then there were two new buildings which housed collections of antique cars, trucks and farm equipment.

How do you like that to cool your food?

What most impressed me - how life was so harsh on the plains, especially for the woman of the home - how could you keep your home clean?  How did you not go insane - which many did.
A dugout home - nope, could not live there

And if there was a bad storm, your animals would come inside with you
