Visit with Dennis, Amish Log Cabin

We drove back towards Salt Fork today, 2 miles from the entrance to the park, to visit with our neighbor Dennis.  Jackie and Dennis lived next door when Dave and I lived in Olmsted Falls.  Great neighbors!  The kind of folk you dream of living next to you, always there to help, what ever you need - they would have.  We miss them.  In 2005 Dennis won a drawing at a local gun club, and the prize was an Amish built log cabin!  He bought 20 tickets for 15 dollars (I think that's what he said) and some of the prizes that day were a Jeep Cherokee car, guns, Amish built cabin, lots of money.  He said every year the prizes get bigger and more fabulous.  Long story short, he had no idea that his ticket was drawn for the cabin and took a lot of convincing via many phone calls that he won.

After finding the land to have the cabin built on, and agreeing on upgrades that they wanted (they decided to double the size of the home), the Amish came and built the cabin over a period of months. Built out of cedar, fitted just so, and furnished!  The Amish built beds, tables, chests of drawers, cabinets inside - fully equipped!

Spent a great day catching up, then later in the afternoon Dennis came by for dinner and checked out our RV.  Tomorrow morning we will go back over for a home-cooked breakfast by Dennis,  known as a great cook.  Good to spend time with him, and tomorrow with both Jackie and Dennis.

A side note:  I could see myself living in a home like this - couldn't afford it, but would definitely be my style. Guess I need to buy some raffle tickets too!
