Medina, Ohio

We moved from Delaware, Ohio which is about 20 miles north of Columbus, to Pier-Lon Park in Medina County, Ohio. We technically are in a small town called Chatham, but our mailing address is Medina. We moved on May 11th to Pier-Lon and are set up at the 'seasonal' location which means that we are paid through October 15th when the park closes for the season. Will not stay here until then, but found it was so much cheaper to pay for the season versus for a monthly rate - couldn't refuse to become a resident. Kinda neat here - they run a tight ship, no drinking, no noise after 9pm and before 9am. Very very quiet. We are considered residents while people who come for the weekend or a week are called guests. They keep the two of us separate in a way. Over Memorial Weekend there were a large group of Mennonites camping here, lots of praising, singing, and lots and lots of kids! We also have our second car - the Toyota - with us which helps tremendously driving around to the condo and visiting family. And with gas prices - oh my goodness, thankful for this little car that gets about 40 miles to the gallon!

The park offers hiking, biking (about 200 acres and then there is 800 acres of undeveloped land surrounding the park), swimming - natural spring lake, fishing (catch and release). This park is the second largest campground in Medina County (Amish and Mennonite heavily populated here) and could easily become the largest but the owners (second generation running this place) say that with 500 sites for camping - anything larger would be unmanageable. They want to keep it like it is. On Saturday mornings we can drive about 4 miles into Chatham and buy fresh bakery from an Amish family selling their goods on the square. Our sight is located against a small forest and the birds are amazing. We saw our first Pileated Woodpecker about a week ago - around 19 inches long, and noisy. The one thing we didn't know when we came is that we are responsible for cutting our own lawn area - we just borrow our neighbors when it gets a tidge ratty. We really like it here, about 45 minutes to the north is our condo where we have our things stored, 45 minutes to the east is our families. Makes it convenient to be this close but still far away from them. We plan to stay until after we get back from Israel the middle of July and then Dave is making a quick trip to Phoenix to help with the kids coming back from their Israeli month's stay. Around the 26th or so of July we plan to head to Minnesota, then the Dakotas, and not sure after that - but want to spend the winter in Western Texas. Big Bend National Park is calling our name!
